Getting Started
Getting Started
Welcome! If you're new to AssetLayer, this guide will help you get set up and start exploring the ecosystem in just a few minutes.
1. Create a Wallet
To interact with AssetLayer, you’ll need a Web3 wallet. This acts as your secure gateway to hold tokens, sign transactions, and connect to dApps.
MetaMask (browser extension + mobile app): Download MetaMask
Core Wallet (Avalanche’s official wallet with built-in bridge and staking features): Download Core Wallet
📌 Tip: After installing your wallet, make sure to safely back up your seed phrase (12–24 words). Never share this with anyone—losing it means losing access to your assets.
2. Add the AssetLayer Testnet to Your Wallet
MetaMask and most wallets don’t automatically detect new networks—you’ll need to add AssetLayer manually.
AssetLayer Testnet RPC Details:
Network Name: AssetLayer Testnet
New RPC URL:
https://rpc-test.assetlayer.org/
(replace with your actual RPC if different)Chain ID:
621030
Currency Symbol: ASL
Block Explorer URL: https://explorer-test.assetlayer.org/
👉 In MetaMask:
Open MetaMask → Click your account icon → Settings
Go to Networks → Add a network manually
Fill in the above details → Save
Switch to AssetLayer Testnet
3. Get Testnet Tokens
Before using real assets, try everything out risk-free on our testnet.
👉 Visit the official AssetLayer Faucet: https://faucet-assetlayer-testnet.cogitus.io/
Connect your wallet
Enter your address
Request tokens (refills are available periodically)
These tokens have no real-world value—they’re only for testing transactions and features on the AssetLayer testnet.
4. Explore the Explorer
The block explorer is your window into on-chain activity.
👉 Open the AssetLayer Testnet Explorer: https://explorer-test.assetlayer.org/
With it, you can:
View wallet balances and transaction history
Track staking activity and smart contract interactions
Verify when transactions are confirmed on-chain
5. Try a Simple Transaction
Now that you have a wallet and some testnet tokens, you can run your first transaction:
Send tokens between two wallets
Copy a friend’s testnet wallet address (or create a second wallet for testing)
Send a small amount of tokens using your wallet
Watch it appear in the block explorer in real time
Stake tokens in a vault (coming soon)
Try depositing tokens into a vault or contract to simulate yield and governance flows
Learn how approvals and deposits work in a safe test environment
Track the transaction in the explorer to see gas usage, confirmations, and block data.
6. You’re Ready to Dive In
That’s it—you’ve set up your wallet, added the AssetLayer testnet, claimed tokens, explored the explorer, and completed your first transaction. You’re now ready to dive deeper into the AssetLayer ecosystem, explore our products, and start building or investing with confidence.
